08-08-2025I own the earliest kindle fire, and it still works, but it’s losing its ability to hold a charge. I’ve reached the tipping point where convenience becomes hassle, so I’m here buying a new model.I typically only use a kindle when traveling, but I broke my arm two weeks ago, and I find that while the kindle fire is much easier to manage than hardcover books, I still have to use a triangular pillow to hold the kindle fire, because it’s too heavy and awkward for one-handed long reads. (I have a bit of arthritis in my hands, too).I landed on the basic kindle because all of them stay charged forever nowadays, and I don’t need a color display. Secondarily I realized this one is both the cheapest and the lightest! Score!I did pay to remove the ads, and I love seeing the cover of my current book on the snoozing screen.I was shocked to find this little effer is lighter than my iPhone 16 pro! It’s easy to read in daylight or at night. I can hold it in one hand—and turn pages with the same hand!—with practice, but without fatigue.I can pick a font and spacing that replicates a book page. This is surprisingly comforting.Daytime glare is virtually nonexistent.I bought a silicone hand-strap for the back of it, but a simple pop-socket would work. (Note that it’s so lightweight it doesn’t have the heft to stay in the palm of one’s hand without fingers actively grasping it.)I love this kindle. Its compact size fits in my smallest, flattest crossbody, and it adds no weight to my load. I think it is glass-free, where the kindle fire has a heavy tempered glass screen. I feel like I can read anywhere again—it will shave a pound off my carry-on (between the kindle fire and the paperback book I usually pack for charging snafus) and makes reading at home virtually effortless.

08-08-2025A Matcha-Made-in-Heaven KindleI’m in love with my new Kindle Basic in matcha green—it’s compact, cute, and crazy convenient. I received a Kindle Colorsoft as a gift from my husband earlier this year (which I do love), and originally thought I’d make my Oasis my go-to for travel. But truthfully, it was just too big and awkward to toss into my sling bag or carry comfortably on the go.Enter my sweet little Kindle Basic—what I now fondly call my baby azz Kindle. It’s light as a feather, zips into any bag without fuss, and gets the job done without the bulk. I did have a brief moment of seller’s remorse for my Oasis, but that vanished the second I started using the new Matcha out and about.The only reason this isn’t a full 5 stars? I really wish it had the warm light feature—my eyes definitely miss that cozy glow during nighttime reading. But even so, this Kindle is basically perfect for everything else. If you’re on the fence, just get it. Your shoulder, your bag, and your inner minimalist will thank you. Bonus points for looking adorable in matcha green and pairing perfectly with a pink case. She’s a whole vibe.

08-08-2025I am traditional a paperback fan but this may have partially converted me. The compact size and long battery life allows me to take it everywhere. I love the color and it very easy to read from without eye fatigue. I can change the font size for when I don’t have my reading glasses on…. Like in bed. I highly recommend!
