09-08-2025Friskies “Pate” is a decent quality lower cost cat food. The Pate version is the only version that does not contain wheat gluten, soy, or other garbage that cats don’t need. (The chunky kind has those ingredient and other unnecessary ingredients, so please check the ingredient label).My cats like this food (usually) and I feed them other flavors of Friskies Pate too. I try to buy a variety of different flavors so they don’t get too bored. Sometimes I’ll give them a better quality food like Fancy Feast, but that only come in 3oz cans.I used to buy the more expensive cat food brands, but can’t really afford it anymore and to be honest, these lower cost foods aren’t terrible. By-products aren’t necessarily terrible. A cat would eat almost the entire mouse, including what is considered a by-product. The question is, what’s the quality of that by-product. I have to trust Purina, or any brand for that answer. Since Friskies Pate has been consistently safe throughout the years, I’ll say they’re using ok ingredients.If you can afford a higher quality food, go for it. But if you’re on a budget, this isn’t a bad food. Just make sure you stick to the Pate kind.Any wet food (Pate versions), even 9 L*ves is better than the most expensive dry food. Dry food had too many carbohydrates, too much filler ingredients in order to bind it into kibble and too little water. Keep that in mind.That said, I do keep a bowl of “limited ingredient” kind of dry food out for free feeding throughout the day, but they like the wet food the best.Also:Water water water. Make sure your cat has plenty of water. Get a fountain, they’ll drink more of water that way. It’s good for their kidneys and urinary tract.
